General Surgery

Our Program

The general surgery training program is a five-year program, with elective additional time available for clinical and/or basic investigation. Clinical rotations are in the University of Missouri Health Care Center, Harry S Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and Columbia Regional Hospital. Residents rotate through the specialties of anesthesiology, bariatric surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, otolaryngology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, urology and vascular surgery as well as general surgery.

The general surgery residency program accepts three PGY-1 categorical residents per year. It is a non-pyramidal program that finishes three chief residents per year. We are a fully ACGME accredited program and have been in continuous operation for more than 50 years.

Our graduates successfully complete their examinations for certifications with the American Board of Surgery with 85% pass rate for the past several years. We are a University based program with emphasis on graduated resident responsibility, research and education. A visit to our program will be well worth your time.
